Chapters (46)
In a switch-up of my usual thank you order, I would like to start by thanking the team at Apple, but mostly James and Alex who don’t work there but are flipping geniuses. Halfway through the writing of this novel my computer died on me. Being the tit I am I only saved work to my desktop because I figured the Cloud wasn’t something to be trusted. Like an even bigger tit, I hadn’t sent myself a back-up or saved it to a hard drive for quite some time … I was missing 12,000 words. That’s seven chapters that for a week of my life just disappeared. In stepped James and Alex like two heroic super nerds and saved the day. There was huge emotion. So guys, thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!!
Hannah, thank you for always presenting everything to me in the calmest of fashions and always giving me perspective. Thank you for continuing to believe in me, and for doing so for a decade. None of this would’ve been possible without you giving me that, and it’s amazing to know that you continue to spread your belief and encouragement to many other aspiring authors – no matter how busy you are or what you’re juggling.
Maxine, what a pleasure it is to call you my editor. Sorry this one took slightly longer than we planned (eek!), but I hope you’re as pleased as I am with the result! Huge thanks to Ellie Hughes, Rebecca Hilsdon and all at Michael Joseph and Penguin Random House for being my cheerleaders and doing so with many smiles along the way. Thanks again to my copyeditor Fiona Brown for working through yet another of my books with such care, and to the page proof team for making sure everything is as it should be.
To my team at YM&U, thanks for giving me the space in a busy diary to breathe, fall in love with these characters and properly get this book written.
My family – sorry I’ve not seen you much since things have started to lift. But guess what? The book is in. Hopefully we’re still allowed to get together for bubbles, hugs and laughter. Giorgie, Dad and Debbie – I hope this book brought back many memories of our own Peruvian adventure.
My CoppaFeel! family – firstly to Ellie, Emma, Jo, Nat and Kris, thank you for letting me head your treks. You will never know how much of ‘me’ you’ve given back to me, or how much these adventures mean to me. To my fellow trekkers – gaaaaaaaaaah! It makes me emotional just thinking about the times we’ve had together. Thank you for the raw, open, honest chats. For showing me your vulnerabilities and allowing me to show you mine. You all will have a place in my heart forever more.
