Scott regained his composure and smiled politely, shifting his position on the desk. “Gabrielle was missing a lot of work due to Adam.” Scott nodded as if the picture jarred his memory. “Yes, now I remember. Adam was sick. I stopped by her home to make sure they were both okay. I had a care package of food, all made from the employees at the office. When I entered her home, she seemed simply exhausted. But then Adam came out of nowhere in his pajamas and was all smiles. One of the containers held chocolate chip cookies and he wanted one. Gabrielle was thrilled because it looked like Adam was feeling better. It was such a happy moment that I snapped a few pictures before I left, for Gabrielle of course. I sent these to her so she’d have them. Little did I know a few weeks later that I would send these to police to help find them after they’d gone missing.” He handed the printouts back to Gavin and shifted his position on the desk again.

“Scott, how often did you visit Gabrielle in her home?” Gavin asked.

“Only that once.”

“You didn’t erase the photos from your phone after you sent them to her?” Warren asked.

“Do you know how many pictures that are on my phone that I need to erase?” Scott laughed. It was a jovial, non-confrontational remark. Regardless, Gavin was pissed at the candor. Scott was lying to him.

“Can you take a look at this other photo.” Gavin pulled out another from the envelope.

“Sure.” Scott took the picture.

“Can you tell me what’s different in this one? Specifically, right there.” Gavin pointed again to a spot in the image.

Scott sensed a problem. He swallowed hard and stared, Gavin could see him trying to stay one step ahead as he saw what Gavin was pointing at. It was no use. He’d already buried himself.

Gavin spoke. “The clock. Look at the clock on the wall.” Though pixelated it could easily be seen. “In the picture with Adam, you can see the clock and it reads six o’clock. Perfectly in line with your story. But the one with Gabrielle reads ten. AM or PM is anyone’s guess, but that’s a substantial difference in time. These are head shots, sir. What I can’t tell is if this was a different day.”

Warren remarked, more of a statement than a question, “You stayed longer than you thought? Or were there more visits than you admitted to?”
