“I can prove the transaction occurred, but nothing is illegal about it. Stocks are borrowed all the time in this type of capacity. But someone knew this one was going to decline big in value. And obviously Melinda knew it.” Gavin pursed his lips. “Why on earth would she have wanted it otherwise?”

“Gabrielle? Did she know who was involved in this transaction?”

“I’m guessing she must have had a suspicion after the fact. Unfortunately, we found nothing in her safe deposit box with evidence. I do think she was looking for it though.”

“But Gabrielle was sleeping with Scott Payne,” Val blurted loudly as she looked at Gavin. She couldn’t get over the shock.

“I’m guessing she was probably trying to get proof of whatever wrongdoing she suspected.”

“Do you think Scott realized who Gabrielle was?”

“Possibly, but keep in mind she was Gabrielle Chandler back then, not Gabrielle Morgan. There are no photos of her online. Even when the twins died, there are no pictures of a sixteen-year-old Gabrielle Morgan, or an older Gabrielle Morgan for that matter. Plus Morgan is a common name and our Morgan in question wasn’t living in a mansion.”

“If Scott found out what Gabrielle might have been up to its possible Melinda could have found out too.”

“Would one of them have killed her, do you mean? Depends on what other information Gabrielle had on them. As I said, short selling is not illegal. Killing Max Chandler would have been. Gabrielle was digging for proof about something. Maybe it was just to get revenge on her friend. Perry said they were competitive but this takes that to a whole new level. Don’t worry, though, I plan to follow through with Mr. Payne.”

Val sighed and paced a few steps, frustrated.

Gavin held up another document. “But for now, I do have this.”

“What’s that?”

“The court order for the exhumation of the Morgan twins. But that’s not all. Here’s the one for Gabrielle too. This is all happening Monday morning.”

“How on earth did you pull that off?”

“The twins were easy. Gabrielle had fought and won that battle already. She died before she received notification. In her petition, she stated the reason why she wanted the exhumation. She said she believed the twins were poisoned. And that someone was also doing the same thing to her. It set the stage for us to exhume her and since Adam is in the coffin with her, he comes too.”

“Mitch! That’s fantastic!” Finally, some proof that Gabrielle felt she was being poisoned, but Val was still confused. The twins would have been poisoned fifteen years ago.

Gavin looked down at his cell phone. “Holy shit!”

“What is it?”

Gavin was silent for a moment as he stared at the screen. “I can’t believe this,” he said and jumped up, grabbing his coat. He seemed dazed, lost for what to do next.
