There were handwritten notes next to dates of the transaction. There were circles around several of the notes, notably “Max gets sick,” “Max dies,” “stocks die,” “total wipe out,” and five exclamation points around the words “I will tear you apart for this.”

“Looks like she has an idea of who this was,” Warren remarked.

“You know, the scandal caused the problem but the death of Gabrielle’s CEO husband destroyed the company. The stock value might not have dropped like it did if it wasn’t for that,” Gavin said.

“Are you suggesting…” Val couldn’t help but speculate.

“It was a domino effect, Val. For someone to profit the way they did from this, they knew the stock was going to decline and they knew Gabrielle’s husband was going to die.”

“If she figured out who’s behind this. That’s a pretty good reason to kill her,” Warren said.

“Are all of these documents about GDA stocks?” Val asked.

“No…” Gavin said slowly as he pulled out the next piece of paper. “This is a request for exhumation… it seems Gabrielle wanted to have her twin brother and sister exhumed.”

“Exhumed?” Val reached over to grab the paper so she could see for herself. “Any reason as to why?”

“None that I can find here.” Gavin shuffled through the documents. “Why would Gabrielle want to bring up the past like this? A past that she was the center of and that everyone was trying to bury, keep her name away from?”

“Gabrielle knew something about that day and she’s trying to get proof about it, is what I’m suspecting,” Val said.

Gavin nodded his head, eyes still on the paper.

“Mitch, can you continue with the exhumation of the twins? Can we actually get this to happen?” Val asked.

“I can try. It looks like she was just waiting to hear back from her petition to the court.” Gavin laughed. “I think I might get it done. Judge Mercado’s name is on this.”

“If you think he’s going to be agreeable, it wouldn’t hurt to try to get Gabrielle and Adam brought up too.” Val thought of the heavy metal poisons. Dr. Maddox may need to take additional samples for Zoe to test. “They’re in the same coffin so you get two for one.”

“It’s possible. Everything we have on the questionable circumstances surrounding her death may give me the ammunition to complete another petition.” Gavin shook his head. “It’s a crapshoot, though. Judge Mercado is a reasonable guy. He’ll follow the law and plausible leads but I don’t know how much he’ll do to anger the Morgans. Being a judge is an elected position and could jeopardize his chances in the next election. Digging up the Morgans’ daughter and grandson won’t be something they’ll likely be happy about.”
