Matt Curtis stared straight ahead as the guy behind the camera took his picture. Jerome looked on as he took a sip of the drink he’d made himself and couldn’t wait for this guy to finish. Once his father had a new identity, they could leave for New Orleans and not get picked up right away by their old employer. If his father was going to help him grow the business, he couldn’t do it under his own name.
“How long?” he asked once the guy took down the sheet behind his dad’s head.
“Give me two days, and I’ll deliver it to wherever you are.”
“I’ll call you, but it’ll be New Orleans. Make sure it doesn’t take longer than those two days.” He took a wad of cash out of his suit coat pocket and handed it over.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there. You want the whole workup?”
“Everything including credit cards, and it has to hold up for a trip south of the border. Trust me, if we get caught, I’ll find a way to hunt you down and shove the camera up your ass.” He signaled to Abril Rojas, and she led the guy out. When Abril came back, his father smiled at her, the pretty woman who’d first approached him about meeting in Biloxi. “Make sure you put someone on him until he gives us what we need.”
“I sent Roberto to follow, and he know not to lose him.”
“Good, if everyone is ready, we’ll head out.”
They got into the back of the SUV with heavily tinted windows while the men put their bags in the vehicle in front of them. Before he left for Mexico there were a few decisions that had to be made, and he was running out of time to make them. Choosing wrong, though, would negate all the advances he’d made. It was the last thing he wanted to do, but it was time to make a decision one way or the other.
“What are you thinking about?” his father asked as they got on the road.
He looked out the window for a long time before he answered. This area had been part of his days for so long, and then he’d had to run. It was funny that it was only now that he realized he missed it. Biloxi was the new playground for people like Casey, and New Orleans was where she ruled. He didn’t miss running around behind her all day, trying to gather evidence that she was blatantly flaunting breaking the law.
