“What would you like?” Nina asked as if resigning herself to the boredom of the coming days.

“A nap, and then we’re going to find the information you haven’t been able to get. I’ll show you how easy it is, and why you should think about shutting up and leaving the decisions and ideas to me.” She headed straight to her hotel room, then closed the door and lay down after taking a pain pill. There’d have to be a trip back to New York, but she didn’t want to give Nina the satisfaction of giving in so easily.

She opened her eyes when her phone chirped at midnight but decided on a shower to be fully conscious for what had to be done before she talked to anyone. Nina and another one of her people were waiting outside when she came out and motioned to the door.

“Where to?” Nina asked.

“The school the girls are in,” she said and almost laughed at how Nina was looking at her. “Abigail moved them this week. I called the school we had them registered in, and they told me where the records were sent.”

The school was prestigious from what she’d read, but their security system was not. They went in through the back as soon as Nina picked the lock, and she remembered the few times Abigail had dragged her to some function or other the old school had concocted to drain more money out of them. Sadie had been the only one in school back then, and she’d been so excited when Nicola had shown up. She’d been waiting until they were a little older before she started spending time with them. She had no patience for giggly little girls and what they found exciting.

It was Abigail’s job to get them to a point where she could start teaching them who they were and what was expected of them. They might have had to give up the Antakov name, but their legacy was a rich one filled with power and money. The only time she interfered with what her lovely partner was doing was when she thought she was leading them in a direction that would’ve made them too soft. Abigail had no concept of how only the truly strong could come to rule their empire.

She stopped at the door to the office and cracked her neck. “Open it,” she said to Nina.

The filing cabinets behind the counter would hold all the information she’d need to lead her to Abigail and, more importantly, her children. She had Nina and the other guard wait outside as she placed a penlight in her mouth and opened the drawer with the Es. She got to the slot where Eaton should’ve been.
