“No.” Nina took the hint and backed down. “I think she’s tried to hide as best as she can and still make a living after what happened in New York.”
Nicola’s father had massacred a bus full of women to protect their operation from the people getting too close. A few lives of unimportant people were worth it to not take any chances. He’d tried to deal with Abigail at the same time, but her ex had lucked out. Her survival after that and how she’d effectively disappeared made her think Abigail’d picked up a guardian angel along the way. An Irish angel with good taste in women.
“There is only one person who could’ve sanctioned this hit, and it wasn’t Abigail. Now, I need to know whatever you can find on this woman so I can plan how to take her down with as much pain as possible.”
“What about the family?”
She took a deep breath and held it. This conversation was getting tiresome. “They will either fall in line, or I’m going to personally make some examples of the loudest voices. Once that’s done, we’ll get back what’s rightfully mine.”
“But you want to deal with Casey before that?”
Nina was persistent. She couldn’t deny that. “Compared to what we faced in New York, Casey will be as simple as brushing my teeth. What I don’t want is her death, and her family’s deaths, to drive Abigail underground with my children. It’s time they start learning their place in the world.”
“Their place is with you.”
“I don’t need you to tell me that.” She stretched her hand out to ease the pain that lanced through it. “They’re the future of the Antakov family, and I’m ready to start their education.”
✥ ✥ ✥
Emma ran her hand through Cain’s hair as she sang the song the band was playing, and it made her smile. Cain loved seeing that smile. When Emma was having fun and this carefree, it reminded her of their first days together. It had taken some time for the shy country girl to get used to Cain’s faster-paced life, but Emma had enjoyed all their nights out.
She took a sip of the new Guinness Josh put down and kissed the side of Emma’s neck. They’d been planning to head home, but she’d asked Emma for a few more minutes after they’d gone into the office together and talked. Their short vacation was cutting into some things she had to get done, and there was no reason she couldn’t tick one thing off her list before they left.
“Having fun, lass?” She spoke loud enough for Emma to hear her, but she wasn’t her only audience.
“I always have fun with you.” Emma kissed her, and Cain pressed her hand to Emma’s backside. “I love you.”
