“If that’s true, he’s a man with no concept of what Emma Casey will do to him.”
She took a breath and opened her own door. Tomas Blanco didn’t appear pleased when her man took his guns and patted him down in case there were some other additions to his wardrobe. Tomas always resembled a disgruntled basset hound, but Hector had told her he’d been by his side for years, so he must’ve been as effective as Lou.
“Good morning, Hector, and welcome back.” Cain held her hand out and he took it in both of his. “Am I your first stop after your trip home?”
“I arrived last night, and there’s so much to catch up on.” Hector held her hand a second longer than what was appropriate. “My home has changed so much here that I don’t recognize the town when I get back. Marisol had so much to say.”
“Not everything is different.” She waved him to the seats close to her office. One of her guys put down coffee and poured Hector some. “Your absence didn’t give me an overwhelming desire to join your business, so I’m at a loss as to why you’re here.”
“I spoke to Michel Blanc while I was gone, and his daughter Nicolette has disappeared. She was here to do business with you, and then she turned to us.”
“Nicolette and I were never going to be what Nicolette had in her mind. Her friend Luce is the one who decided not to do business with us, and I was fine with her decision on behalf of Michel. My interest in the deal was to help Michel get out of a situation that could’ve cost him his family’s business, that’s all.” She took a sip of coffee and glanced at Fin and Neil, who were seated across the room from them. “The only misunderstanding we had was hers and Luce’s decision to visit my club and make wild accusations that attracted people neither of us would ever invite into our lives.”
“Like I could give a fuck what happened to Nicolette Blanc, Cain,” he said, tilting his head to the side. “My daughter and her became friends, but she is of no importance to my business. I said this to tell you that her family is looking for her, and they might come here to ask.”
“I’ll give Michel or anyone he sends the same story. I’ve got nothing to hide.”
“Think of your children. If something happened to one of them, it would make you crazy, so watch your back, my friend.” Hector put his cup down and rubbed his hands together. “That is all I have to say about that.”
“Which brings us to what you really want to say.” She smiled and waved him on.
“You already know what has happened to my business, Cain, and maybe you are happy.”
