“There’s no way they could fly, but all Nina said was they had to get out of town, and they needed me to stabilize Nicola. I did, but it was patchwork at best. That’s all I know.”

“Wait here.” Cain motioned to the bedroom where everyone followed her. “This is only speculation…”

“Your guesses are usually on point,” Remi said.

“They don’t have the numbers to fight another attack off, and Nicola doesn’t trust the family to fight for her. She threatened Sacha, and I’m sure there were a few others on her list, but Nina knows better than to call them for backup.”

“What are you saying?” Emma asked.

“They really are getting out of here, and we need to figure out where that is. If that old guy out there is right, Nicola is on borrowed time. If that’s true, then we need to punch her clock.” She sat on the bed and tried to think. “Fin, what did your boss tell you?”

“Russell is out of town, and I’m not going to trust anyone else with this information,” Fin answered.

“How about your old partner? You trusted him to get Abigail and the kids out of town.”

“Peter is okay, but do you want to give it to him first?” Fin walked closer to her as if to gauge her reaction.

“You tell your partner, and once he shares that with your old boss, Russell Welsh will beat us to New Orleans.” Cain couldn’t hide Finley from her orbit forever, and this might be a good way to bring her out of the shadows. “He’ll be the best person to lead any team against Nicola, and it’s about time you introduce your family. We’ll think of a way to make sure it doesn’t bite either of us.”

“What about Nicola?” Abigail asked. “I don’t know how much more I can take.”

“I can’t answer that, but I’ll bet anything Nina and whoever this other guy is took her out of the city.”

“They could end up anywhere,” Dallas said. That was probably what everyone was thinking.

“Not really,” Remi said, coming and sitting next to her on the bed.

“She’s right,” Cain agreed. “Leaving changes depending on how you’re doing it. Nicola’s hurt, so she can’t get on a plane bleeding, and trains will be out as well.” Cain was interested in keeping everyone calm, but this was the worst possible scenario. She wanted a clean kill so that she could stop obsessing over Nicola, and if she was truthful, that’s what she’d been doing. “Abigail, is there a place the family liked to go? A kind of retreat or favorite spot that they went often?”
