“I love working with guys like that,” she said, her own smile widening. “Let’s see if we can find Castillo before you have to spend any more time with him. I like having some of the answers before I start asking questions.”
“This time he had his dad sit in on the meeting, and the old guy was full of ideas.”
“His father?” That was new. “He’s part of the business?”
“Sounds like it, and they look pretty close. I still miss working with my old man.”
“Focus, Colin,” Finley said. “Who’s the father? That might be a way to narrow down our search.”
“His name’s Patrick Rhodes, but Jerome introduced him as Patty. That’s a nice Irish name, don’t you think?”
Finley typed something in and waited. It took five minutes for enough results to populate. “There are twenty matches between this area and Cabo to look at.” She turned the device so Colin could look at the screen. “Are any of these guys his father?”
Colin put on reading glasses and studied each one. “Nope, the guy I met was older, white hair with a little dark streaked throughout, and he was fit. I’m not sure how old he is, but the guy was sharp up here,” Colin said, tapping the side of his head. “He tried to guide Jerome without making it seem like he was doing it.”
“Cain”—Lou knocked on the doorframe as he entered—“you aren’t going to believe who Dino found.”
“I’ll give you twenty dollars if you tell me it’s Pablo Castillo.”
“I’ll take the twenty spot, boss. Dino sent a text message to Castillo from the phone of the last guy they weeded out. He told him it was urgent that they meet. He texted Castillo there’d been a break in the chain, and you were on to them.”
“I like the way the kid thinks,” she said, and Lou smiled.
“Yeah, and after the text, Dino positioned our guys to wait and see if anyone took the bait. It took an hour before an older man walked into that bar at the back of the Quarter.” Lou showed her a picture, but she didn’t recognize him. “He bought that the dealer sent Dino to deal with the fallout.”
“Where are they now? And good job on that kid’s training. Dino’s going to be a good man to have around.”
“I told him some stories about the place out in the east, and that’s where they brought him.”
“We should wait until dark, but we’re leaving for New York this afternoon. The meeting with Oblonsky is set, and Remi got us an audience with the top of the food chain in New York. Angelo Giordano invited us for dinner, and I’m thinking you don’t turn that down. Let’s get this done so we’ll be ready to roll later.”
