“I’m not going to kill her, but I will promise that I’ll make it impossible for her to stand on her toes.” She put the picture in her shirt pocket and pointed outside. “The car you’re in doesn’t have room for Tim and Joshua, so you were here to get rid of Nicola’s problems—all of them.”

“You bitch.” Linda grabbed the knife from a surprised Lou and drove it into Zoya’s side. “If there was a way for you to tell Nicola I didn’t give the feds everything, I wish you could, if only to see her face. But you’re not walking out of here alive if I can help it. Once I do, I’ll be happy to tell Cain where to find your family.”

The admission that Linda had held back crucial information was what Cain was waiting to hear. “Tell me where Nicola is. I’m not wasting any more time here,” she said, patting her pocket. “I don’t need you. Linda can give me all the information I need about your family.”

“Nicola is in New York,” Zoya said. The glare she was giving them was almost comical, but Cain really was done wasting time.

“That’s like telling me she’s in the middle of the ocean. I’ll make sure and tell your sister and mother it was you who’s responsible for what happens. While they wait for your brothers to save them, I’ll take pleasure in letting them know you got them killed as well.” She stood and had to take a moment to get her balance as the pain intensified. Her light-headedness meant she might’ve lost more blood than she thought. “Lou.”

“Wait, fucker!” Zoya said at the top of her lungs. “I don’t know where she is, but my orders didn’t come from her. It was Nina Garin who sent me, and she’s in Trump Tower in the city. David Eaton put her up in an apartment there.”

Cain glanced at Linda, who nodded.

“Nina Garin was Nicola’s number two when she was in New Orleans,” Linda said. “When Nicola supposedly died, she moved back to the city and went to work for Uncle David. If Nicola rose from the dead, Nina is by her side.”

“Good, then we have a starting point,” Cain said.

“Wait, give me your word you’ll leave my family alone,” Zoya said.

“You have my word, but unlike you, I’d never hurt women and children. My family has honor, and you’re going to die with none.” The second the words left her mouth, Linda slit Zoya’s throat and stood over her as she gurgled and coughed until she was dead.
