“If you mean that, I’ll be happy to accompany him. Will you tell him what I’m worried about? I can’t help but feel that I’m being disloyal to him.”
“All he needs to know is we saw you at the restaurant, and I invited you to coffee. We’ll cover the rest after that, but he’ll be the one fessing up to all this. Don’t worry about it. I’ll leave one of my guys behind, and he’ll escort you there once you’re done with Kalina.” She stopped when Emma squeezed her hand, letting her know she had something to say.
“Don’t worry that Cain will use your worry against you, and we have a place for you to stay if Colin wants to spend some time visiting with the family. It’ll be a good time for you to meet everyone.” Emma did a good job of putting anyone at ease, and even Judice seemed charmed by her. “Colin and Cain, like the rest of the cousins, are different in a lot of ways, but they’re also a lot alike, and it’ll be nice if you can see that.”
“Thank you both.” Judice smiled and placed her hand on her purse. “I won’t take up any more of your time.”
“Cain,” Lou said, coming in and pointing to his phone. “Your next meeting is ready.”
“Good, tell someone to bring him up.” She stood and held her hand out to Judice. “Remember that I’m always a call away. Lou will give you my card.”
Judice took Cain’s hand in both of hers and held on. “Thank you.”
“I’ll see you both tomorrow, and I’ll take care of it, if you want, by calling him and extending the invitation.” That made Judice’s smile widen, and she nodded. “Good, now if you’ll excuse me.”
“See you soon, Emma,” Judice said before following Lou out.
It took Sabana a few minutes to get to their room with Nathan, and Cain almost laughed at the bright yellow overcoat over the soft green suit. She wondered for a moment if Nathan was perhaps colorblind and his clothier used him to get rid of these outlandish clothes. He quickly shed his coat, shook her hand, then moved to Emma and gave her a much longer greeting by kissing both her hands. Had he been anyone else, that would be a sort of death wish. Not that she would beat him, but Emma didn’t appreciate anyone taking liberties with her.
“Good morning, Cain,” he said when he sat in the same chair he’d chosen the day before. “And you, Mrs. Casey.”
“Nathan, thank you for your time. Did you find anything?” she asked, but Emma pinched the top of her hand.
“Would you like some coffee, Mr. Mosley?” Emma offered as she stood with their cups.
“I would love some, and please call me Nathan.”
