“Oh no, it was Josh?” Kristen stopped what she was doing and glanced up at her. “He’s so nice when we go in there.”

“He was meeting with the contractor, and some asshole shot the place up. That isn’t a normal occurrence even if it’s happened twice, so we’ll have to do some research to make sure it doesn’t happen again.” She relaxed when Kristen moved to her belt and zipper next.

“Is that the kind of research Remi does?” Kristen asked the question that didn’t really need an answer in a teasing tone. “You don’t have to tell me, but promise me you’ll be careful.”

“I’m the in-house counsel for my family’s business, honey. The only thing I’m in danger of is a papercut from all the paperwork I shuffle around daily.”

Kristen put her fingers into the sides of her boxers and pulled down. “It’s so funny that you expect me to believe that, but I’m not in the mood to argue with you.”

She kicked everything off and waited for Kristen to take off her shirt, but she held the open sides and pulled her closer. “I’m glad you think I’m so exciting, but my days are pretty boring. You, on the other hand, are the exact opposite of boring.” They’d taken things slow in the beginning because she wasn’t sure if Kristen was ready for anything long-term. Her college graduation was still a year away, but it was impossible to keep fighting what Kristen kept saying she wanted, and she’d given in.

“What’s going through that brilliant legal mind?” Kristen asked when she pulled her down. “If you bring up our ages again while we’re almost naked and on a family vacation, you’re sleeping on the sofa.”

“I don’t think about that anymore…much,” she said, making Kristen laugh. She went along willingly when Kristen pulled her to the bed and pushed her into a sitting position.

“My sister gave me the broad strokes about Remi’s family business. Don’t worry, nothing too specific, and since Cain and Remi sprouted from the same family of trees, I have a general idea of what I’m getting into.” Kristen stood between her legs and combed her hair back. “Do you have the complete picture of where we came from? And I mean really, where me and Dallas come from?”
