- About the Author
We all looked at each other, then Evan, Matt, and I twisted in unison to look at Griffin. Matt pointed at him. “No streaking, no doorbell ditch, no flaming sacks of—”
Griffin made a disgusted sound as he cut Matt off. “How childish do you think I am?” Matt pursed his lips at him, and Griffin rolled his eyes. “Fine. I’ll be the perfect, boring neighbor. They won’t even know I’m here.”
I almost believed him, until he smirked and looked out the window. Great.
We finally arrived at the house owned by the label, and my mouth popped open when I stepped out of the limo. Like all the other houses we’d seen, it was massive. It was also swarming with people. I hadn’t expected that, but I supposed it made sense that we wouldn’t be the only people using the house right now. Lana explained that any artist signed with the label was free to use the house and free to invite guests. That made me deliriously happy. That means Kiera can be here.
Lana led us past people in swim trunks and barely-there bikinis. Griffin bit his knuckle as a girl in a thong winked at him; it was like this place was his personal paradise. There were even more people inside the house, and a sinking feeling started to fill me. Would there be any privacy here? True, I didn’t like to be alone, and I preferred a little company, but I also liked being able to recharge at times. Lana led us up some stairs, the windows there showcasing an impressive view of the pool in the back. She explained the history of the house as she walked, but nobody was really listening to her; we were all too busy absorbing the opulence.
When we got to the second floor, Lana led us to a common area with a huge TV and a slider to a deck. I was a little relieved after seeing the space; it was much quieter here than down below. In fact, nobody was even up here, and that gave me hope that privacy would indeed be possible.
Lana pointed behind her to several sets of doors. “These are your bedrooms; your things have already been placed inside.”
That surprised me. I hadn’t expected for us to get our own bedrooms. We all thanked her, then started opening up doors. Choosing the door closest to me, the first door along the wall, I opened it and stepped inside. I grinned at seeing my bag and guitar case on the bed. I ran my hand over the case, then popped it open to make sure my guitar was okay. Thankfully, it was exactly how I’d left it; even my photo of Kiera and me was still there.
