- About the Author
His eyes lit up, then he smirked at me. “Dude, I’m already a god.” Then he started walking deeper into the bar, starting in on his game.
I laughed as I watched him walk as far away from Justin as he could get. Matt snorted. “Good one. That should keep him occupied for most of the night.” He gave me a fist bump, then started looking around for an empty table.
While I watched Justin try to disengage himself from a friendly fan, a girl stepped up to me. “Are you in Justin’s band?” she asked.
Shaking my head, I politely told her, “No.”
Matt cleared his throat and raised his eyebrows at me. Clearly, he wanted me to elaborate. Rolling my eyes, I told the girl, “I’m with a different band. D-Bags. We’re on tour with Avoiding Redemption…tell your friends,” I muttered.
I saw Matt smile, heard Evan chuckle. The girl beamed at me. “Oh…awesome. I will, for sure.” She flashed a glance behind her. “Or you could? My friends and I have a table over there. You guys want to join us?”
Not wanting the girl to get the wrong idea, I shook my head and told her, “Sorry. I don’t think my girlfriend would like that.” That was subtle, right?
The girl’s face fell. “Oh…well…it was nice meeting you.” She grinned again. “D-Bags. I like it.”
She walked away happy, so I figured I hadn’t upset her. Matt grinned at me in approval. “Nicely done.”
I glanced at Evan’s amused face, then shook my head. Walking, talking billboard, right here. “Can we drink now please?”
We ended up just hanging out at the bar. The two women behind it seemed really pleased to have us there, and I don’t think we got asked to pay for a single drink. That didn’t sit right with me—if it were Kiera getting free drinks from strangers all night, I might have a problem with it. No, I’d definitely have a problem with it, so when last call came around, I made sure to settle our tab. And then some, since the amount she quoted me was nowhere near the amount we’d consumed.
We were all a little blitzed when we stepped out onto the sidewalk. “Where to?” Griffin asked, his face dour. He hadn’t beat Justin. And he was super-pissed that I had beat him, beat everyone. Again.
“Back to the hotel?” I shrugged.
He glared at me. “Fuck that. You owe me a meal.”
My mouth popped open. “Why do I owe you a meal?”
“Because you’re still cheating,” he said, his eyes narrowing. “There’s no way you beat Justin on his home turf.”
“I don’t actually live around here,” Justin murmured, amusement in his pale eyes as he watched us.
Griffin turned his annoyance on Justin. “Did you help him cheat?”
