- About the Author
I felt Kiera pulling away from me, and I followed her lead. Yes, it was definitely time to go. Thank God Kiera hadn’t noticed that particular fan. She really didn’t like it when my ex-flings mentally screwed me right in front of her. But it wasn’t something I could do anything about, especially when it happened around fans. I had an obligation to them, and I really hated being impolite in front of them. They were the entire reason we were going on tour after all.
Maintaining my professionalism, I ignored the girl I should have known better and excused myself to the group. “It was nice to meet you all. I’ll see you at the show.”
Kiera made an oddly annoyed sound at hearing me say that. I knew she had a jealous streak, but she was usually okay with me interacting with the fans. Why was she irritated? Had she spotted Eager-eyes after all? Damn it. Well, it wasn’t like I’d acknowledged her or anything, and she hadn’t said anything to me. Maybe it was something else. Or maybe Kiera was fine, and I was reading her mood wrong.
But when we got outside, I knew I wasn’t reading her wrong. She was scowling as she huffed down the steps, irritation practically wavered in the air. I desperately wanted to skip whatever this was and return to the amazing mood we’d both been in just a few minutes ago, but I knew if I ignored this, it would only fester inside her, and be about a thousand times worse when we did talk about it.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked, ripping off the Band-Aid.
Kiera’s response wasn’t what I expected. In that snide tone of voice that crawled right under my skin, she childishly mimicked my earlier courtesy. “I hope you all can make it. See you there, ladies.”
Stunned, I stopped and stared at her as she walked by me. That was what had upset her? My harmless flirting? “I was just being friendly with some fans, Kiera. It doesn’t mean what you think it means.” I wasn’t hitting on them. I was just trying to pack the bar so tonight would be even better. In a way, it was for her. And the band. And Pete. I’m just doing my job.
Before I could say any of that, she stopped and spun around, hands on her hips and fire in her eyes. Pointing at the building we’d just left, she bit out, “You’ve had sex with that girl!”
So, she had noticed her, and that was what this was truly about. I knew I should be sympathetic. I knew I should be understanding, but her snotty tone was really starting to piss me off. “And?” I bit back.
