- About the Author
They tittered even more, all of them seeming too uneasy to talk directly to me. One of you needs to be bold, girls. And it really shouldn’t have been that hard. I wasn’t that scary. Finally, one of them stepped forward. “You’re Kellan, right? We just love your band.”
I was nodding at her assessment when I spotted something odd. There was a girl in the back who was tugging at something in my brain. I swear to God, I’ve seen her before. From a show? Maybe with this group, since they had clearly heard me before? But, no, that didn’t seem quite right. Did she date Evan a while back? Maybe that was it.
Deciding not to worry about it, I tossed on a smile and told the group, “I’m glad to hear you enjoy us. Our last show is tonight at Pete’s.” Knowing this was their last shot at hearing me for a while, I decided to make my invitation a little more…arousing than I usually did. Leaning forward, I lowered my voice and told them, “I hope you guys can make it.” They were clearly hard cores…I’d hate for them to miss this last show, and if my tone sold them on showing up, well, so be it. The more people I could get to come into the bar tonight, the better.
The way the girls responded to that almost made me laugh. But then…that damn girl in the back grabbed my attention again. She wasn’t responding to that like the others. No, they were nervously giggling but she looked like she’d heard an unspoken promise in that statement. She was practically undressing me with her eyes, like she wanted to throw me up against the wall and have her way with me. But it wasn’t just that…I was kind of used to that. No, there was something else on her face. Something that said, Come on, Kellan…you know me. Remember…that one night…?
Probably not one of Evan’s exes then. Shit. I must have slept with her at some point, that was the only thing that explained the familiarity on her face. The more I thought about it that way, the more it felt right, but even still, the memory of being with her wasn’t leaping out at me. There were vague flashes of kissing, undressing…but that was it. And not being able to fully remember her made me feel pretty damn crappy. Sorry, Eager-eyes…I don’t remember that night.
