- About the Author
I shut off the water as she left the bathroom. Grabbing a nearby towel, I scuffed up my hair, then dried off my body. That was when I remembered something I’d forgotten to do, something kind of important. I stopped moving and swore. “Goddamn it.”
“What’s wrong?” I heard Jenny say from the hallway.
“I forgot to bring extra underwear.”
Jenny snorted as I sighed. Guess I was going commando for a while. Maybe we should have done this at my place after all. Still laughing, Jenny tossed out, “Evan’s got some here. Want to borrow one of his?”
I crinkled my nose as I stared out the open bathroom door. Evan was certainly a better choice than Griffin, but still… “No…I’m good, thanks.”
Jenny laughed even harder. Girls.
Wet underwear in my hand, I met up with Jenny when I was fully dressed. She handed me a black-and-white photo, and all the earlier discomfort vanished from my mind as I stared at what she’d managed to capture. This was exactly what I’d been hoping for. It was from my jawline to just about a centimeter above my boxers, and with how low my boxers had been, it definitely created the illusion that I was naked. My abs were clenched, thanks to how fucking frigid the water was, and every line popped out. And then there was the water, rivulets running across my skin mixed with still droplets. The overall effect made the photo look…alive. It was perfect.
“Damn, you’re good.” My grin was unstoppable as I peeked up at her. “Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted.”
She sighed as she shook her head. “You’re welcome, Kellan. That was probably the best photo I’ve ever taken…and I can’t believe I just deleted it.”
I laughed at her comment. “I appreciate your sacrifice.”
She rolled her eyes at me, then laughed. I was just about to leave when a thought struck me, and I paused. “Hey, Jenny…we’re friends, right?”
Jenny’s brow furrowed, like she couldn’t believe I was asking her that—especially after what she’d just done for me. “Of course, Kellan. You know we are.”
I nodded. I’d really hoped that, but I knew I could be…difficult at times. I was sure I hadn’t always been a good friend to Jenny, or at least, that was how it felt to me. And I really didn’t know if my friendship with her extended past our circle of mutual friends, if it extended past her loyalty to specific people in those circles…like Kiera. I didn’t know exactly where I fit in Jenny’s life, how important I was to her, or if I even mattered at all.
