Dear Future Edie,
I hope you’re doing OK! If I thought the start of the school holidays was busy, I was delusional. It seems like everyone’s waited for August. There are people EVERYWHERE! Every caravan and tent pitch is full and the noise has increased tenfold. Luckily we’re all dab hands at everything now, and it’s running like a well-oiled machine – well, most of the time.
Despite things being manic, we’re still finding time to go out and party. A couple of nights ago we went and had a big bonfire on the beach and didn’t get home until sunrise. I was exhausted, especially as I had a whole daytime shift to get through. The sunrise was worth it though. I’ve never seen anything like it. I always thought Westerly would have a good sunset, but it gets its name for being West of Bournemouth and Poole (who says that I don’t know my local facts) but that means that the beach faces east and the sunrise blew my mind.
But enough about that. The big news with me is that I’ve broken up with Scott – I’m guessing that was less of a surprise to you than it was to me. He’d been weird since he came down to visit, and eventually he told me that he’d kissed Annie Barton. I hung up on him and he texted me telling me that he thought that it’s best that we call it quits – he broke up with me via A TEXT MESSAGE??!!! To be honest, I’d been cross as he’d been really distant when he came to visit. He’d probably been cheating on me all round Europe. Good riddance, right?
Everyone here has been so great trying to perk me up. Especially Joel, he’s been my rock. He always made me laugh before, but now it’s like he’s trying super hard to make sure I’m not sad. I have laughed more this summer than I ever knew possible and most of the time that’s been when I’ve really let my hair down and let loose. I’m not talking about going out and getting really drunk – I’ve learnt the hard way that killer hangovers are no one’s friend when you’re emptying campsite bins. I’m talking about just enjoying yourself, not taking yourself too seriously and laughing until it hurts. Give it a go!
Much Love

I’m guessing that the latest challenge from my eighteen-year-old self won’t be too difficult when I’m spending the weekend with the old gang.
Joel hands me a beer and sits back down at the table.
‘Hey, random question but do you ever still watch the sunrises down here, like the ones we used to see down at the beach?’
