  41. LET’S STAY IN TOUCH!

When Court saw me, she darted upstairs and returned with a beautiful, beaded headband that she placed gingerly in my straightened hair. “Perfect.” She admired her finishing touch.

“I look sweet, even though I’m the hussy that slept with both of their sons.” I tried to make light of it, but the guilt that I felt was almost overwhelming. These people all knew what I had done with Seth and then Sam, and I wasn’t looking forward to facing them. “You play, you pay, I guess.” I looked sadly at Court.

She gave me a perturbed look. “You stop it right now. You are hardly a hussy. For Heaven’s sake, you have only slept with three men in your entire life. Before the dry spell that I’m currently enduring, it wasn’t unheard of for me to bang three different men in a month.”

“Have you ever had sex with brothers? Or worse yet, twins?” I asked her point blank.

“Well, no,” she admitted before adding, “but the Davis twins are pretty damn irresistible. I would have been glad to jump both of their bones, or boners,” she gave me a naughty grin after she said that, “if you hadn’t found them first.”

“Thanks for trying to make me feel better about it.” She nodded as we both heard the rumble of Sam’s Porsche pulling into our driveway.

Court gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “You don’t have anything to feel guilty about. Sam and Seth are both adults, and they have both forgiven you. Now you need to forgive yourself and move on. What happened isn’t anybody else’s business. Not even their family’s.”

I smiled at Court. She was always on my side. As if reading my thoughts, she added, “If anyone gives you a hard time, call me, and I’ll come take care of it.” She held up her dukes like she was ready to fight the world for me. I hugged her goodbye and ran out the door.

Sam was already walking up the sidewalk towards my house, looking as handsome as ever. “I was going to come up to the door to…” He stopped talking without finishing his thought. He was looking me over from head to toe, drinking in every detail.

I immediately felt self-conscious. Did my dress look silly with my belly poking out? Had I worn the wrong thing? Was there jelly from my bagel on me? I looked down at myself trying to figure out the problem.
