In this fantasy, for it to be maximally effective, it is important for both partners to psychically introject themselves into the entire situation. They must think and feel the situation as it would be. There is no civilization. There is rule only by lust and force. Moralities, scruples, restraints, do not exist. There are no marriage ceremonies. Mating is by capture. No social artifices, no glosses, no contracts, no meaningless rituals, conceal the victim’s plight, that she will be, by the decision of her captor, sexually subjugated. The primitive realities of the basic biological relation of man to woman, that he wants her, and will have her sexually, are here unclouded by social gimmicry. This is a raw fantasy, a bold fantasy, for those who can dare to enact it. Perhaps the female is bound hand and foot with rawhide thongs and carried to the cave? (Rawhide boot-straps make superb binding thongs for women.) She has no protection. She is at the mercy of the man who has captured her. She is helpless. He can do what he wants with her. We may even suppose that there is very little developed language. It is important, very important, to understand the rawness and primitiveness of the world in which these individuals find themselves, very important. The caves are the jungle, and the female has been caught. She has literally been, understand this, caught. There has been speculation, incidentally, that the wedding ring is symbolically reminiscent of the bonds in which the captive female is placed. That seems pretty farfetched. On the other hand, which of us has not carried his wife over the threshold of his first home? That act seems symbolically reminiscent, surely, of capture and carrying the female into one’s stronghold, whether it be cave or castle, or Apartment 1A. I suppose that a women’s libber would not permit herself to be carried over the threshold, but would insist on walking through at precisely the same time as her contractual partner. That alone should inform him of the time he is in for. When a man wants a lover and wife, it is too bad if he is stuck with another one of the boys, one determined to be a real buddy and pal to him.
