She knocked on the door as Jack peered through the plate glass along the right side of the building. Waiting for an answer at the door, she saw a small waiting area directly in front of the glass and then a surprisingly large bar area. There were a few tables set up off to the right, positioned in a way that made it clear this place was a bar first and restaurant secondthe sort of place that probably offered subs, burgers, and fried stuff just to keep their clientele satisfied.

There was no one moving around inside following her knock. She was pretty sure no one was insideunless they were in the back in a storage room or cooler or something.

Hold on a second, she said. Let me see if theres a back employee entrance.

Sure. And if you get in, grab me a drink, would you?

She smirked at him as she made her way to the empty lot on the right side of Spillmans. Almost right away she could see that there was indeed a small parking lot behind the bar. When she came to the back of the property, she saw that the parking lot spilled over behind the closed-down barber shop as well. There were two vehicles therean older model pickup, and an older-model BMW.

There was a single door located directly in the center of the bars back wall. A tattered metal sign attached to it read Employees Only. She even saw a small buzzer installed along the frame presumably for delivery drivers. She pressed the little buzzer and knocked hard on the door. She waited a few seconds and then knocked again. But by the time the echo of the knocking faded, she was sure there was no one inside.

She turned to head back to the front but paused when her eyes passed by the BMW behind her. The passenger side was facing her, but she saw something on the ground from under the car on the drivers side. She ducked down a bit to look under the car and took a slight step back.

It was hard to tell for sure without getting a better look, but she thought there was a body on the ground on the other side of the BMW.

She made her way around the car quickly and sure enough, there was a body sitting on the ground, propped up against the side of the car. She thought it was dead at first, but then saw the heavy rise and fall of the chest. It was a man, his head tilted hard to the right. He looked to be middle aged, with five-o-clock shadow scruff on his face.

Rachel hunkered down in front of the man, wondering if it might be a late-night drinker that hadnt trusted himself to make it home but was too proud to call a cab.

Hey, Rachel said. Excuse me, sir. Wake up.
