And I personally spoke with the two men that were stationed outside the house, Captain Brown said. Had some stern words with them, but they both swear up and down that they saw no one enter the house. And to be honest with you, I do believe them.

When did they arrive at the house? Rachel asked.

Around 6:30.

Rachel walked over to the opened window and looked out of it. She guessed the drop down to the yard waiting below was about fifteen feet or so. No more than twenty. It was a drop that someone could easily survive, but likely not without a break or sprain or some other injury to their legs. However, over to the right, there was the slanted roof of a screened-in porch that covered almost the entire back side of the house. That, in addition to the thin strip of roof between the screened-in porch and the bedroomwhich was really little more than a decorative way to run the gutters along the backwould have made it easy to get from the window down to the ground in a much more manageable way. Getting from there up to the window was a totally different story, though. Especially when there were cops parked outside.

She looked at the window and window-frame, but could see no clear signs of forced entry or remnants of fingerprints or dirt of any kind. She then poked her head out of the window and looked to the edges of the frame. It was hard to tell, but she thought she saw some scratching and just the slightest bit of indentation along the base.

Any security cameras around here? she asked.

They have a Ring doorbell on the front door, Stanhope answered. We had an officer just finish up looking over all of the footage right before the two of you arrived, and theres nothing on it. The last motion it detected was when the husband got home.

As Jack started making a circuit of the room, Rachel pulled out her phone and looked at the transplant list. Christina Ragland was the fourth name on the list. Shed noticed this before, back at the motel, but it seemed somehow much more important now that they were standing in the womans bedroom with her dead body at their feet.

Im going to get down there and have a look at the back yard, Jack said.

Rachel only nodded at him, slowly looking around the room. It was a sizeable bedroom, with a large walk-in closet. There was no bathroom, but shed seen the master bath when shed come up the stairs and down the hallway; it was the second door on the right just before the bedroom. She looked in the walk-in closet and saw nothing noticeably out of place. The wifes clothes were on the right, the husbands on the left. It was all separated by a few pieces of luggage and a small rack of shoes.
