He nodded, not sure if he bought it or not. Regardless, he got behind the wheel and started the engine. He looked over to her and saw that she still looked uncomfortable. Something was distracting her; something had been distracting her for a while now, and she was keeping it from him.
But he wasnt going to drag it up. Hed learned his lesson over the past few weeks. So instead of asking her about it, he kept the conversation on the case. You know, I had a thought when we were in there with the coroner. He mentioned Mr. Webbers family not requesting an autopsy. It makes me wonder…I know were waiting for all the red tape to be cut through in order to get the medical records for both victims, but if the Webber family is willing to hand over what they know, thats permissible.
Thats right, she said, already pulling out her phone. He noticed that she waited a few minutes before making the call, as if steadying herself. Ill see if Eloise Webber would be agreeable to that.
She made the call and placed it on speaker mode. It rang three times before it was answered by Tommy Webber.
Tommy, its Agent Gift again. So sorry to bother you so soon after having already left. But we were wondering about a few details of your fathers medical history. Im sure you know that the doctors wont give us medical records until the warrant clears, but even some very miniscule information would be a big help at this point.
Well, Mom is meeting with some folks at the funeral home about coffins…, his voice hitched on the word coffin but he cleared his throat and did his best to forge on. But I think I can help if its just small stuff.
Do you happen to know the name of the doctor your father was seeing?
Dr. Ailsworth was the one he saw for his check-ups. I know that much for sure. There were others here and there, but I think he was the main one.
Was he a specialist?
Im not sure. Hold on a second…Im looking through this folder of his stuff that Mom had laying out. There was the sound of rummaging from the other end of the phone. They listened to it patiently while remaining parked in the coroners parking lot. Jack tried to get a gauge on Rachels condition. Whatever had been bothering her earlier still seemed to be there, but it was either fading away or she was hiding it well. He wondered if it was a physical pain or an emotional one. She hadnt mentioned her grandmothers condition much since theyd joined up. Maybe that was it.
Okay, Tommy finally said Ive got a whole list of doctors and nurses. And most of them seem to be all at the same place, the same hospital Dad was going to regularly.
