Jack grabbed Holcombs right wrist and bent it back fiercely. Holcomb cried out and was only able to hold on to the scalpel for a few seconds. His fingers opened up as he did his best to get out of Jacks grip, and the scalpel went clattering to the floor. After that, Rachel thought she could literally see the fight and the will drain right out of Brandon Holcomb. Jack spun him around so that his face pressed directly into the wall and then pulled his arms behind him to apply handcuffs. Holcomb fought only the slightest bit but by the time the cuffs snapped into place, he had started crying softly against the wall.

Rachel started forward to see if she could assist in any way. Jack apparently caught sight of her motion out of the corner of his eyes because without even turning his head, he said, Let a doctor know were good here. And that they may need to check on Mr. Dillinger.

It was incredibly rare for Jack to give such blatant instructions to her, so it sounded a bit jarring. But Rachel did as hed asked, heading out into the hallway. There were a few people standing around outside of the door, clearly having been listening to all that had been transpiring in the room 36C.

Someone needs to check on the patient, she said. And its okay to call off the lock-down. The suspect has been apprehended.

Hey, Gift!

She turned and saw Stanhope rushing down the hall. He moved swiftly, but it was evident that he was not used to moving so fast. Everything okay?

Yes, she said as Stanhope approached her, breathing heavily. Agent Rivers has Brandon Holcomb disarmed and handcuffed inside.

Good, good. Great work. They…hold on. He studied her face for a moment and frowned slightly. You look a little rattled, Gift. You okay?

She thought of the moment shed had in the stairwellthe worst episode shed suffered ever since the first one out on the training course in Richmondthe one that had convinced her to go to the doctor. The memory of blacking out on the course and the immense pain shed felt in the stairwell stuck to the forefront of her mind and would not release. Still, she managed to give a quick nod of her head. The smile she offered was a bit harder to create.

Yes, Im good.

Together, they walked into 36C. Two nurses had already hurried in and were checking Seth Dillingers vitals. Jack still stood with Brandon Holcomb, slowly guiding him away from the bed and toward the door.

Deputy Stanhope, Jack said. Im sorry to do this to you, but would you mind escorting Mr. Holcomb out of the hospital and giving him a ride to the station. I need to discuss something with Agent Gift for a second.

Sure thing he seemed to have caught his breath as he swapped places with Jack. Anything else I can do?
