When Branson took her out of here, Jack said, she begged to speak to you. She specifically asked for the crazy bitch that saved me to come talk to her whenever you could. He sighed here and looked in the direction of the river. As your partner and friend, I want to suggest that might be a very bad idea.

But we need to an actual confession out of her and if she

Oh, we got one. She admitted to all of it right in front of me, Branson, and two other cops. She said she only ever started volunteering because she liked to hear peoples plans about suicide. Shed wanted to kill herself for years but never had the courage. She arranged these events to live vicariously through them. And it was just like you figured. Harding and Staunton actually went through with it. But Newkirk and Adams needed some extra help. She even admitted to pushing Adams off of the High Bridge and knowing his head struck the side when he fell.

And she just admitted to all of it?

He nodded, giving her a concerned look. Im not sure what it is youre going through, but Im starting to think it goes beyond what you told me about your grandmother. And after this case we just went through, I dont think its a good idea to have an audience with a woman who is clearly quite gifted in using her wordswhether its to talk someone down from suicidal thoughts or to kick them into gear. You caught her and shes been arrested. Theres no use in talking to her.

There were so many questions she wanted Lisa to answer but she knew Jack was right. The fact that Lisa had been adamant about speaking with her after being pulled from the river even suggested that she had some sort of devious plan in mind. And quite frankly, Rachel didnt have the capacity for it.

Shell need to be placed on suicide watch, she commented.

And you can recommend that when we wrap it all up tomorrow. But please just stay away from her. I think were done with this case outside of reports and paperwork.

When Rachel nodded in agreement, she found it hard to keep her head up. I need to sleep, she said. It sounded like a childish request but she felt it from the very core of her soul. She was so tired, so confused and disoriented. And really, as she recalled those flickering white lights and the swaying of her head while in the river, she was also scared.

Will you let the medics look you over first? Jack asked.

Just a basic look-over. Im not going to the hospital.
