As Rachel looked around the bedroom, she made a small checklist in her head. They needed to call Shelby to tell her to contact them when Lisa showed up to her shift tonightif she showed up at all. They also should probably contact Lisas cell provider and request a copy of her phone records. There was so much that needed to be done, but the most important thing right now was locating either Lisa or the owner of that fifth number. And she had a very good feeling that one was going to lead directly to the other.
The bedroom offered up nothing, so she went into the bathroom. It was small and quaint, the sort of bathroom perfect for a woman living alone. There was no medicine cabinet, but there were three drawers under the sink. Rachel went through them, doing her usual search for any medications that might result in abnormal behavior. It had been a discovery that had assisted in lots of cases in the pastand it paid off here as well.
In the middle cabinet, she discovered two prescription bottles. One was Vyvanse, a standard med for treating ADHD. The other was a little more telling, though. It was Sertraline, a drug used to treat manic depressive disorders and anxiety. And seeing that prescription, the case made a whole new sense to her.
The presence of Sertraline indicated that Lisa herself had been dealing with depression. Rachel was no pharmacist, but she was pretty sure it was a medication prescribed for harsher cases of depression. She didnt think it was a stretch to assume there was a chance that Lisa may have had suicidal thoughts in the past based on this discovery. If this was this case, had she never been able to actually go through with it? Was she perhaps testing the waters or observing what it was like trough others? And if so, what better way to do that than by orchestrating such events behind the scenes?
She went into the living room to tell Jack what shed found and to share her theory. But as she made her way back out into the hallway, she heard the familiar chirping of his cell phone. Hearing it, she raced to join him, hoping it was already his bureau contact that had been such a huge help with the phones to this point. When Jack saw her enter the room, listening to the phone and nodding, he gave her a thumbs-up.
Thanks a ton, he told the man on the other end. Do me a favor and keep that up for a while, okay? Let me know if it moves.
Even before he was hanging up, Jack was hurrying for the door. I think this is it, he said. If we act fast, we can save a life and maybe nab Lisa.
What did you find out? Wheres the phone?
