It would. Gabby said she made sure the photographer knew to blast it everywhere and Lincoln’s a sports fan. He’d see it soon if he didn’t late last night.
I faced them both. “No. He’s my problem. I appreciate you wanting to protect me, but I think I have the right to know.”
“Of course you do.” Heather rubbed my back.
Kane grunted something I couldn’t make out and shoved another bite of food into his mouth. “Your call.”
“I’ll go get the phone. Unless you want to wait? For like an eternity?”
“No.” I was still curious about Irena calling me, and if she heard if he’d called me again, too. Besides, I wanted to see what I was dealing with. There was a high probability that if I pissed him off, I’d have an even harder time getting Glen on the phone, but that was the risk I was willing to take in order to get full access.
Besides, Kane had his lawyers looking into things. Hopefully this coming week we’d get everything straightened out and I’d finally get access to my trust. Then Kane and I could discuss the new marriage slash non-relationship we had and how we wanted to handle it.
“Go get the phone,” Kane said and pushed off the stool. “Let’s get this shit over with so I won’t still be pissed when Mom and Dad come over later.”
“Your parents are coming over here? Today?”
“Yeah.” Heather nodded. “When they bailed last night early, they said they’d be here. Wanted to talk to you two, see how you’re doing.”
“They’re not mad, though, right? Because they were quiet last night and left early…”
“They’re not mad. They’re worried, about you mostly, and me, admittedly, but they’re not mad. And you know they love you.”
“I know.” That didn’t mean I wasn’t nervous to spend time with them now that I was married to their son, fake or not.
“And we don’t have to know if Lincoln’s heard anything yet,” Heather said and held up her phone. “Because it’s all over social media, along with the surprise since you and Lincoln looked so happy together a month ago out to eat.”
Kane
“Shit,” Emmersyn muttered. “This is bad.”
She shoved her hands through her hair, paced back and forth through the living room where I’d turned on the television after Heather’s announcement.
She was right. We were a hot topic numero uno in the sports world and I’d checked my phone to see calls and emails from our team’s reporter. Granted, she’d been there last night. She was the one who dropped the story in the right hands, but it seemed it’d taken on a life of its own.
Social media was being absolutely vicious toward Emmersyn, something I hadn’t considered a possibility but the fact she jumped from one mogul into the arms of a hockey player didn’t seem to be sitting well with either hockey fans or those who were enamored with public faces like Lincoln’s family.
