“And speaking of Heather. Have you talked to her?”

“No. I’ve been trying to call her since yesterday. I know Kane called his parents and explained everything, what was going on, and obviously Heather knows, but I figured she’d give me an update about Lincoln, or I don’t know, talk to me and give me more shit about marrying her brother.”

Or you know, fly out for it, but I hadn’t heard from her and that had me worried in more ways than one.

I’d tried hard not to listen to that conversation with his parents, too, and mostly succeeded while he paced around his living room and kitchen area, phone to his ear. It had seemed to go really well until Ava’s name was mentioned, and then Kane got off the phone quickly thereafter. He’d left the room, and a few minutes later, I’d heard the clang of weights slamming to the floor upstairs, almost above my head.

So there was that… I needed to remember not to get hung up on a guy who was still so very much hung up on his ex-wife.

“Maybe she’s just busy—you said she has a crazy schedule, right?”

“She does, and it’s not uncommon for me to go weeks without talking to her, but I’d still think I’d hear from her this week. Makes me worried about Lincoln. If he’s shown up there again.”

Or if Heather ended up buying a rifle and filling him with buckshot. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

A buzzer blared through the arena, startling me and I looked up to the Megatron in the center.

“They won.” I grinned from cheek to cheek as the guys on the ice lined up and all slapped Garrett’s helmet before skating back to their bench and lining up.

“Of course they did. Our guys kick ass,” Lizzie said, and she pulled me to my feet. “Which means we need to get going—and fast.”

We headed back to the interior portion of the suite and everyone else was there, gathering purses and scooping up kids and car seats, all smiling at me.

Holy shit.

Reality slammed into me as hard as Dominick had hit them earlier.

I was about to get married to a guy in love with someone else while my own love life fell apart and was now marrying me as a pity favor.

That he’d starred in my dreams, some of my awake fantasies in the last week which would never be mentioned out loud didn’t matter.

I was getting married.

“Ready?” Lizzie asked.

I forced a grin. “Let’s do this.”

These women were miracle workers. Thanks to Sophie’s organizational skills, Paige’s park idea and Gabby’s stylists being willing to help out at the last minute, we were now in an enclosed tent Sophie had a company come and erect for both the ladies and another one for the guys.

They’d had to stay for the post-game talk and meeting and shower. But Gabby had assured me they all had their own tuxedos so they’d look nice.
