No. That was a line of thinking I needed to bring to a full halt.
We’d do that, sure, but it’d be a show. If only he wasn’t so damn handsome, standing outside that exact moment. He’d dressed in a black polo shirt, gray golf shorts. Slid his bare feet into black Birkenstock sandals. I’d almost swallowed my tongue when I met him at the top of the stairs after we both got dressed and ready. The outfit was so casual, yet he wore it like a three-piece suit.
I’d spent several days trying to forget how attracted I was to him, how the few moments I swore I caught him checking me out and liking what he saw had to be my own mirage. My own confusion after everything I’d been through in the last week.
“Perfect,” someone else said.
“Are you sure?” I asked, but I was still looking outside, imagining. And it was that moment Kane turned to me, caught my gaze and his thick, black brows rose in question.
Damn, he was hot.
I flashed him a wink, letting him know I was okay, and turned back to the girls.
I held up a finger. “We have one little problem.”
“What is it?” Gabby’s brows furrowed.
“I’ll need a dress. In a week.”
It was late afternoon when we returned to Kane’s house, but with the sun and the drinks and the constant activity, constant talking and meeting new people, all while everyone tried to act like our announcement of getting married wasn’t the strangest thing they’d ever heard but were happily going along with it—I was exhausted.
I needed a nap, a shower, and a long night with a really good book to make up for all the conversation and extroverted energy I’d had to exude.
Today would be my last chance, because tomorrow, Gabby and Lizzie were picking me up to start a wedding dress shopping extravaganza where we were planning on touring every wedding bridal shoppe in Las Vegas in hopes we could find something I could wear, something that wouldn’t look like this had all been planned last minute and could be altered in six days.
Just thinking about it made my head spin.
“You all right?” Kane asked, as I rubbed the tension pulsing at my temples.
“Overwhelmed,” I admitted, and covered a yawn. “And tired. I need a nap.”
“Things went okay, I take it. Based on Sophie’s notes she showed off to everyone with names listed by to-do items, it looked like the women helping us plan a wedding was the highlight of their year.”
“Yeah.” I couldn’t help but chuckle. “I think Gabby’s getting into it, too. She said she gets to plan this one since she doesn’t remember everything about her own.”
Kane shook his head, laughing along with me. “Happens when you get drunk, I guess.”
“She cracks me up.” Another yawn hit and I covered my mouth, shook my head to clear away the cobwebs. “They were all really wonderful. You have good friends here.”
