“No shit?” Garrett’s eyes widened right before his glare darkened and he turned in the direction the girls had gone.

“The hell?” Joey seethed. “What kind of piece of shit—”

I held up a hand and stopped. “It’s worse than that.”

Emmersyn and I had talked about what she was comfortable with everyone knowing since we agreed to this. They were my brothers, they’d have my back one hundred percent. It still didn’t stop me from hesitating, scanning each of them, wondering who would believe this.

“You know the hotel chain and cruise lines? Regal? He’s the president and CEO’s son—Lincoln Powers.”

Eyes widened. A few swiveled toward the kitchen and back to me.

“I thought she looked familiar,” Braxton said. He was one of our wingers. Blond-haired, blue-eyed, thin and fast, and hadn’t been playing so great lately. While he grew up in Wisconsin, he’d lived in New Jersey for several years before joining the Vipers. “Fuck. That’s a mess and a half.”

“Exactly.”

Ryder scratched his cheek. “Isn’t he that Doctors Without Borders dude? Gives a lot of money to them? Has donated some of his cruise ships to carry supplies to Africa or some shit?”

Of that, I had no fucking clue. But maybe I should do some investigating of my own. “You know him?”

“My dad’s a doctor, Mom does a lot of volunteering. I swear they’ve mentioned him.”

“It could be him. But even if not, trust me, if you would have heard the shit I heard him say the other night when he was screaming at my sister, you’d want to kill him about as much as I do.”

It was Dom who stepped up, fury rolling off in pulsating waves. “Don’t need to hear any more. But that doesn’t explain why you’re now suddenly engaged.”

Because I was fucked in the head. And I’d opened my mouth before I could think clearly and it was too late to take it back.

“She’s got inheritance issues. Old school grandparents and parents not in the picture, so everything they had goes to her. But most of it’s in a trust she can’t access… unless she’s married.”

“Jesus,” Garrett said. “Who is this chick?”

“The granddaughter of CocoRock Music Productions founders.”

Silence landed in the entryway like a bomb. Hell, I was still in Joey’s entryway.

“Anyway. Wedding is going to be Friday.”

“We have our first preseason game that night,” Joey posted out cautiously.

“Then I guess we’re going to pull a move like you and Gabby and get married after.”

I smirked at him.

“You’re an ass,” he teased.

“And in desperate need of a drink.”

It was Dom who approached me at the beer cooler, stepping back while I shook ice-cold water off my Heineken.

He hadn’t been the one I expected to make a move, talk some sense into me, but it shouldn’t have surprised me, either.

After Dom opened his life story up to us and fell in love with Holly and his soon-to-be stepson, Ben, he’d become one of the most dependable guys on the team.
