But try as I might, I can’t forget the look on Ragini’s face when she saw that I—That I had seen … There was absolute hatred and anger etched on her features. But she can’t hate me, can she? It’s not like I intended to walk in on her with—I have to stop thinking about it.

What I can’t understand, though, is why she would choose Sinha? She’s never even liked that man and has always called him an a-hole.

I splash some more water on my face and remove all the make-up. I was so distraught last night that I slept with all of it on and now the mascara’s smudged. Sid hasn’t come back home yet. It must’ve been very urgent work that kept him away all night. He’s been having frequent all-nighters of late but he usually takes a change of clothes and his shaving bag. I wonder how he’s managing today since he didn’t take fresh clothes with him yesterday.

I have a quick shower and put on a pair of jeans and a short kurta. I check my reflection in the mirror. Even though I don’t expect my tummy to start showing overnight, I look at it searchingly. Still the same, slightly tubby, not one bit pregnant. I am pretty certain though that my boobs are definitely looking bigger.

En route to Neelima’s house last evening, I bought What to Expect When You Are Expecting. I had a quick peek at some of the pictures. Though right now the baby inside me resembles a tadpole, I can’t wait to show the pictures to Sid. I am also holding off on getting the first ultrasound done, I want to go with him. Maybe we can go today—if there’s a radiologist open on Sunday—or tomorrow evening.

I’m going to tell Sid about the baby once he comes back home today.

I skip breakfast because I know I’ll throw it all up. I did eat a slice of toast earlier, though. I read on an online maternity forum that eating toast helps control morning sickness. So far the toast trick seems to be working. It’s the first morning I haven’t puked.

Despite the disturbed night and constantly trying not to think of Ragini, I feel much more relaxed today—mostly because Dragon’s not around. I can’t wait for her to go back to Chandigarh so Sid and I can have the house to ourselves.
