He smirks, damn dimple. “Let’s just try and see how things go?”

Old insecurities creep in and I can’t help it, it’s like I’ve taken a freaking truth truffle again. “You would just be seeing me, right?”

His brows furrow, and his hands cup my jaw. “Little witch, you take up so much fucking space in my mind there’s no way I could see anyone else.”

“Okay, I’ll try.”

“Good girl. Now go take a shower and let’s go get some crepes.” My stomach growls comically, and I pop off the bed and walk to my bathroom.

I’m not sure when my plots got so complicated or when the majority of Hallowsdeep became my enemy. Beyond my coven and some lunatic demon trying to kill me, now I need to figure out a way to make Ryan forget I ever existed.

Chapter 17

Dax pulls out my chair for me as we sit at my favorite breakfast spot. Archibald’s has been a staple in Hallowsdeep for as long as I remember. Not much has changed since I was a kid, either. All the tables and chairs are mismatched. The round table I’m sitting at is an aged linoleum table top, probably made in the early eighties. Meanwhile the chair I’m sitting in looks like it belongs to someone’s dining table in 1954. I swear the man just drives around town seeing who is throwing shit out and uses it to fill up the small breakfast shop.

It’s nostalgic and cute, I love it here, and the company isn’t so bad either. I’m thankful that Dax didn’t hold this morning against me. I knew what he wanted and I was feeling insecure and couldn’t give it to him at that moment. He’s so patient with me, I just hope I don’t wear that patience out.

“Do you know what you want?”

“Brown sugar, strawberries, and lemon preserves, please.”

“You got it.” He kisses my hair before he goes to the front counter to place our order. Who knew a demon could be so nice? The only time I’ve seen him slightly irritated is when he was at my bar with Asmo, but honestly, the guy can be fairly annoying. It would be hard not to have a short temper with him. We won’t mention the whole watching him rip apart a golem with his bare hands, that was self-defense.
