Her eyes flash pink for a moment until they go back to their honey brown color. I’ve never met a witch with that ability before. I want to ask her about it, but I’m not sure if I should disclose that I know she is a witch or not. It might lead to her questioning what I am, and the last thing I want to do is scare her off.

One of her hands slides down to my chest against the soft texture of the plaid shirt I’m wearing. She looks up at me and smiles before moving her hand back around my neck.

Lionel ruins our moment by tapping Blair on the shoulder and pointing to his mouth. Blair gives me a wide-eyed glance but whispers under her breath. It makes Lionel leave, and she shrugs.

“What’s his problem?”

“He has behavioral issues. Kind of like an untrained dog,” she says.

“Mmm, but bad behavior can be fun now and then.”

She leans closer to me. “I agree. Too many people think in terms of black and white and not all the shades of gray in between.”

“What shade of gray would you be, Blair?”

“On a good day, pewter, on a bad day, charcoal.”

“What kind of day was today?”

“It was a charcoal day… until you came into my bar.”

“How can I make it better?” I ask her.

She tugs me down by my neck as our lips touch. It’s a calmer kiss than I expected from her. I also didn’t expect the way my magic would pull me to take her even deeper. Her lips are soft, she doesn’t use any tongue, but it’s enough to make me want more. I want to devour her. The moan slips out of me as she pulls apart from the kiss, panting and staring at me.

Her eyes are glossy and confused and flash purple before phasing back to brown. She furrows her brow, but still holds me around my neck.

“What are you?”

I lean down to whisper in her ear. “I guess you’re just going to need to wait and find out, little witch.” I couldn’t help myself. Maybe the mystery of who or what I am will keep her intrigued enough to want to see me again, or even let me take her home tonight.

“You can tell?” she asks, confused. I push a strand of her hair behind her ear and she leans into the touch.

“I could sense it as soon as you looked at me across the bar.”

“What are you?” she asks again, like I’m willing to lay everything on the table. People don’t trust demons, rightfully so. The last thing I want to do is push this fiery witch away when I just found her.

“In due time,” I tell her. We walk back to the bar and I pull out a stool for her. The redheaded witch places two drinks for us on the bar top as Asmo tries speaking to me. My attention is elsewhere as I watch Blair spell my drink.
