“By that look on your face, I’d say quite a bit,” Evelyn said, walking across the massive front stoop. Waving her arm in the direction of the taxis, she asked, “But what’s all this?”
“Well, you didn’t think I’d be able to fit all of it in my car, did you?” he said as he came to stand by her side. “Were the mattresses delivered?”
“About two hours ago,” Evelyn said with a nod. “Dare I ask how you managed it?”
Noah’s face creased into a smile. “Let’s just say that money definitely talks.”
“Yes, it does,” Evelyn said, looking past Noah as the staff helped the drivers unload their taxis. Thinking back to what they had accomplished in only one day, her face turned rosy. “Yes, my dear, Noah, it most certainly does.”

Addison did nothing to hide yet another yawn. Her desk was filled with trays lined in black velvet, each holding rings of gold, silver, and platinum. Clasped in prongs were diamonds of every shape and size, and while some were classically elegant, others were frighteningly obscene. She was tempted to buy the most garish. Thick and speckled with a legion of faceted chips, they were the style seen on the wrinkled fingers of dowagers craving to regain the attention they lost when their beauty abandoned them. Toying with the idea, Addison pulled the ugliest from the tray.
Seven rows of channel set diamonds made up the monstrosity. Set in white gold, it was nearly blinding as she held it up to the light streaming through the window behind her, and heavy between her fingers, she wondered if her soon-to-be wife were ever to go swimming, would she sink because of it? The thought brought the tiniest of grins to Addison’s face.
Herbert Fitzsimmons stood silently with his hands clasped behind his back. His pencil-thin mustache twitched in anticipation as he saw Addison Kane choose the most expensive ring in his entire collection. Noticing the smile on her face, he was about to rattle off all the pertinent details about carat weight and clarity, but the words died in his throat as she returned the ring to the tray.
