Hearing a slight hum, Addison scanned the room, and noticing the tiniest of refrigerators just off to her right, she frowned as she tried to discern its purpose.
Joanna, concerned Addison hadn’t seemed interested in helping with their children’s care, left Evelyn and Fran to chatter quietly near the cribs while she went over and stood by Addison’s side. “You know, I’m not opposed to hiring a nanny to help out, but she won’t be here twenty-four-seven. So, you really need to learn how to do some of these things.”
“I know,” Addison said, rubbing the back of her neck. “I just...I just feel so inadequate right now.
Joanna sighed. “Addison, I have over a dozen books you can read if you’d like, and the classes I took meet every month so if you want to attend a few, I wouldn’t mind.”
“Classes?”
“Yeah,” Joanna said, bobbing her head. “Baby basics, infant CPR—”
“CPR!”
“Ssshh,” Joanna said, holding a finger to her lips as she tried not to laugh “You’re going to wake them up.”
“Sorry,” Addison said, lowering her voice. “But CPR? You said they were fine.”
“It’s just precautionary for all parents, not just us.”
“Oh, thank God,” Addison said, placing her hand over her heart.
“Anyway, if you’d like to go to some of them, we can. I don’t mind.”
“I’d like that, but can we bring the teacher here instead? I think I’d be a little bit more comfortable if...um...it was more private. I mean, I’m still Addison Kane. You know?”
“Yes, you certainly are,” Joanna said, smiling as she reached down and threaded her fingers through Addison’s. “And I’ll call them tomorrow and see what we can arrange. How’s that?”
“That would be great. Thanks.”
“Ladies, I hate to disturb you, but dinner is ready,” Fiona said quietly as she stood in the doorway. “I can prepare trays and bring them up if you’d like?”
“No, that won’t be necessary, Fiona,” Joanna said. “We’ll be right down. Thank you.”
Without having to be asked, Fran and Evelyn followed Fiona from the room, but as Joanna was about to do the same, she noticed Addison hadn’t moved. “You coming?”
“No, I thought perhaps I’d stay here, just to keep an eye on them. The dining room is a fair distance away, and I wouldn’t want them to wake up and be scared.”
Joanna’s heart melted into a puddle again. Taking Addison by the arms, she spun her around and pointed toward the ceiling. “You see those?”
Addison squinted. “Is that a camera?”
