“Well, I’ll tell you what,” Joanna said as she stood up. “When you get it sorted, you let me know.”
“Please don’t get angry,” Addison said, getting to her feet. “I have a business to run—”
“I don’t give a fuck about your business!”
“No?” Addison shouted. “Well, it’s that bloody business that afforded you this life!”
As soon as the words spilled from her lips, creases of regret carved themselves into Addison’s face, but Joanna hadn’t seen them. She had already stormed from the room and slammed the door.

Joanna walked from the en suite, but came to a stop when she saw Addison sitting on the edge of the bed. It had been the first time in months they hadn’t slept together, and by the appearance of Addison’s clothes, if she had gotten any sleep the night before, it was in a chair or on a sofa.
“Are you all right?” Addison asked, but when the only response she received was Joanna’s cold stare, she said, “I heard you in there. It sounded like you were sick.”
“I was. It’s to be expected,” Joanna said as she headed to the wardrobe.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what? For me throwing up or...or for you being such a bitch last night?” Joanna said, turning around. “Because that’s exactly what you were. We talked about this. We planned this. We went through tests and procedures for this, and now all of a sudden, you need to sort it out.” Joanna paused and shook her head. “No, wait. That’s wrong, isn’t it? You don’t need to sort this out. It’s your bloody business you’re worried about, isn’t it? Well, guess what, Addison? You take care of your business, and I’ll take care of myself.”
“Jesus Christ!” Addison said, jumping off the bed. “Yes, we talked about it, and yes, we did the tests, but there’s a difference. You didn’t have my child inside of you then, and now you do and...and it’s bloody, fucking scary!”
