Addison reached over, running her finger down Joanna’s face until she reached her chin. Applying just enough pressure, she turned Joanna’s face toward her. “Re-do it.”
“What?”
“Redecorate my bedroom. Make it new. There’s nothing in there of any value to me so do what you want to it.”
“We don’t have to do that.”
“Yeah, we do. That is unless you want me to sleep in a bed where—”
“If you’re wise, you won’t finish that sentence.”
Addison smiled. “Then is it settled?”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. Very sure,” Addison said, leaning in for a kiss. “Now, what say we seal the deal?”
***
Joanna approached Addison’s bedroom, but the closer she got, the more pronounced her frown became. Stopping midway between the east wing and the master suite, for the third time in as many minutes, Joanna turned and headed back to her room.
They had been lovers for over two weeks. Passionate and uninhibited, they had touched, kissed, caressed, and loved naked and free, but entering Addison’s bedroom suddenly seemed far more intimate. Even though Joanna knew Addison’s offer to have the suite redecorated was heartfelt, walking into Addison’s inner sanctum was proving to be difficult.
At first, Joanna told herself it was only because it was Addison’s personal space, but by the time she turned back around and glared at the doors, Joanna stopped kidding herself. Behind those ornately carved slabs of walnut was a bed, and it was a bed Addison had shared with more than one woman. Setting her jaw, Joanna strode to the master suite and threw open the doors.
She ran her hand down the wall, and finding a bank of three switches, she flipped the toggles toward the ceiling. For a moment, Joanna thought she had missed a light or two, but one quick glimpse at the switches proved her wrong. Every light in the room was on, but most of the illumination had been swallowed up by its surroundings. There were, however, enough watts in the bulbs hidden behind yellowed shades to make Joanna feel a wee bit stupid.
On and off since she had arrived at The Oaks several months before, Joanna had found herself wondering just how large the master suite was, but if she had paid attention, she would have had her answer before now. There were only three sets of doors on the second floor excluding those leading to the lift. One set led to the west wing, one led to the east, and the last, the pair she just walked through, led to the gargantuan space before her.
