“You were three and a half before you stopped wearing your clothes inside out,” Evelyn said. “And almost five before you got the colors and patterns sorted.”

Evelyn knew Addison couldn’t argue the statement, so she made no attempt to hide her grin as she walked across the room. Well aware of Addison’s penchant for fine lingerie, the black bra edged in lace was no surprise, but the fitted, high-waisted trousers were. Unlike her usual flat-fronted ones with boxy, straight legs, those she wore tonight were pleated in the front, and with the legs narrowing as they got closer to the floor, the design was undeniably feminine.

After giving Addison a very slow once over, Evelyn’s grin grew broader. “But it appears you’ve sorted them quite nicely tonight.”

Evelyn’s comment had nothing to do with the styled trousers and everything to do with Addison’s overall appearance. A woman who normally used makeup sparingly, if at all, tonight she had chosen to highlight her features, and the result was stunning. Now framed in charcoal liner and with a hint of gray and white blended eye shadow, the arctic color of her eyes had been accentuated to the nth degree, and the strength of her jaw and her high cheekbones were now emphasized with a touch of blush, but Addison hadn’t stopped with just makeup.

Although she had a standing appointment every five weeks for a haircut, the stylist’s talents had been all but wasted by Addison’s continual use of the best and strongest gel on the market, but tonight Addison had set her hair free. The layered tresses on the top were now ruffled and sexy, and using a dollop of mousse, she had finger-combed the tapered sides, silhouetting her face perfectly, yet still allowing her natural color of chestnut to show through.

Lost in her admiration as to what stood before her, it took almost a full minute before Evelyn finally raised her eyes. Flinching when she saw Addison’s menacing glare, she said, “What?”

“You’re staring.”

“Am I?”

“Yes!”

“Sorry.”

“Are you?”

Evelyn began to snicker. “Not in the least. It’s about time you stopped hiding behind men’s suits and starched shirts. You and I both know you’re a woman, and you and I both know you enjoy being a woman. It’s about bloody time you show it.”

“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,” Addison groused, reaching for the padded hanger holding her black dress shirt. “And if all you’re going to do is stare, go stare somewhere else. I’m busy.”

Watching as Addison slipped the blouse from the hanger, when she saw her fumbling to unbutton the shirt, Evelyn pressed her lips together to silence a laugh. Managing to get herself in check, she said, “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were nervous.”
