Dedication

To Boni –

Thank you for shining a light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel. Through your smiles and your laughter, your encouragement, and your support, I found my way back to something I love to do. So, I dedicate this story to a woman who will always be a dear, trusted, and loved friend.

Prologue

The sound of her screams urged him onward. Pressing the accelerator to the floor, he sped down the winding road, mindless of the torrent of rain drowning the countryside and obscuring his vision. The windshield wipers seemed out of control, moving so fast across the glass that his vision cleared for a blink of an eye before it was again obliterated by streams of water trying to get in.

The sky was black and then it wasn’t. Ripped at the seams by arcs of lightning, cobwebs of brilliance snaked and danced their way across the heavens. False hope was given as the road became flooded with light, but then it disappeared, and headlights not nearly bright enough, fought their way through the onslaught.
