Adele was glad when they had gone. She didn’t like the effect Glynn had on her. Her face was still flushed and she could feel her pulse racing. She took a deep breath and tried to focus on her work but she couldn’t help analysing what had just happened.
Mike was right; Glynn was smarmy. But there was something about him that drew her in. She wished it didn’t. He was a textbook charmer, a man who probably came on to all the women. And she couldn’t help but feel flattered even though she should know better than to fall for his patter.
Adele thought about her brother’s warning. She knew it was only a matter of time before Glynn made a move on her. But, despite the thrill that she felt when she saw him, Adele had a bad feeling about Glynn. So, she decided that she would do everything in her power to resist his advances. Deep down she knew that a man like Glynn would only bring her trouble and she’d already had more than her share of that in her life.
Chapter 32
Peter was having a night in with a good-looking blonde who worked behind the makeup counter of Lewis’s in Manchester. It was the third time he’d seen the girl. Her sex appeal was undeniable and he’d greeted her with a passionate kiss as he grasped her buttocks before letting his hands roam up to her breasts.
‘Steady on, randy,’ she giggled but they both knew her protests were half-hearted.
They went through to the lounge and as he slipped one hand down her tight-fitting jeans, she sighed with pleasure. Then she eased her legs apart, allowing him to slip one finger inside her. He took her there and then on the sofa. After it was over, they put their clothes back on, he poured them both a drink and switched on the TV.
They were currently sitting watching a film but he’d missed half the story while she yattered away. The truth was, once the sex was over, she bored him. He had no interest whatsoever in the latest cosmetic products or shop-floor gossip, and her fake posh, department-store voice was starting to get on his nerves.
He was thinking up what excuse he could use to get rid of her when the doorbell rang. Thank God for that! he thought as he dashed to answer it.
‘Alright?’ he greeted Glynn and Mike, but he could see by their faces that things weren’t alright.
He led them into the dining room. ‘Wait in there for me. I’ll be with you in a minute,’ he said.
Peter then went into the living room.
‘Everything alright, babe?’ the blonde asked.
‘No, it’s not. I’m afraid I’ve got a bit of business to attend to so you’ll have to go.’
