As she tapped away at the computer keyboard, Glynn and Mike sauntered into the office. Adele looked up and immediately felt herself blush as she took in Glynn’s powerful frame and chiselled features. She quickly looked back down at her keyboard to disguise her embarrassment.
‘Hiya, sweetheart. You not saying hello then?’ asked Glynn.
She reluctantly raised her flushed face to see Glynn looking her over appreciatively. The cheeky smile was there again, as well as the twinkle in his eye and the confident air.
‘Sorry, I was busy,’ she babbled. ‘I wasn’t deliberately ignoring you.’ She inwardly cursed her choice of words. Why was she defending herself?
‘That’s alright, sweetheart,’ he said, winking at her. ‘We won’t keep you long, just wanted to bank this cash.’
He held up a bag of money, then crossed the office and put it in the safe while Mike waited in the doorway. Adele could feel her face cooling now Glynn’s eyes were no longer on her. Once the money was tucked inside and the safe door locked, he turned around to face her again. ‘Is Pete still in?’ he asked.
‘No, he went home early tonight. Said he had a bit of business to attend to there.’
‘Aah, we all know what kind of business that is,’ said Mike, with a lewd grin on his face. ‘The dirty bastard will have taken a bird back with him. I bet he’s—’
‘All right, Mike,’ Glynn cut in. ‘Can’t you see there’s a lady present?’ He flashed Adele a very becoming smile and she felt the colour return to her cheeks as his eyes explored her. ‘Has anyone ever told you what a lovely complexion you’ve got?’ he asked her.
‘Fuckin’ hell, Mr Smarm strikes again,’ said Mike.
‘I’m not being smarmy,’ Glynn responded. ‘It’s just that some of us know how to treat a lady.’ He eyed Adele again before smiling and addressing her. ‘Isn’t that right, sweetheart?’
Lost for words, she returned his smile but willed him to leave her office. The guy was too much!
‘Come on, Glynn. Save your fuckin’ flirting for another time. You know we’ve got important stuff to sort with Pete,’ Mike complained.
‘OK, I’m coming,’ said Glynn. ‘I just wanted to make our new member of staff welcome, that’s all.’
He walked to the door but before he went he turned back to face Adele. ‘If there’s anything you need, and Pete’s not around, just give me a shout and I’ll look after you,’ he said.
‘Thanks,’ said Adele, feeling conscious of her scarlet cheeks under Glynn’s keen gaze.
