  57. About the Author

He narrowed his eyes. “I’m not sure I believe you. You seem determined to paint him as the enemy. Why not focus on the positive?”

“Because then it becomes a press release. Without some kind of drama or surprise, there’s no story.” Certainly not the one I pitched. I stared at my phone willing it to ring, ping, something.

“Adina.”

I looked up to find Finn’s eyes locked on my lips.

I returned the stare, imagining what kind of kisser he was. Would he be soft or firm, practiced or sloppy? I’d bet he knew what he was doing.

“You’ve got something…” He touched a finger to the corner of his mouth.

“Oh.” I wiped the side of my face and pretended I hadn’t thought we’d been exchanging mutually lustful gazes.

He chuckled. “Wrong side.” Before I knew what was happening, he leaned over the table to wipe my mouth with his thumb, his eyes teasing yet kind.

“Th-thanks,” I stuttered, mesmerized as he licked the sauce from his finger. I released the breath I was holding just as an Instagram notification popped up on my phone, alerting me to a message from Davina. Finally. “A potential source just DMed me,” I said. “I have to read it.”

“Don’t let me stop you.” Finn motioned at his half-eaten slice. “I’ll finish my delicious pizza.”

I made a grossed-out face before opening the message.

Thanks for reaching out, Adina! I’d be happy to speak with you. I’m currently in Florida, but are you free tomorrow morning at 9:30 for a phone call?

I did a little dance in my seat.

9:30 is perfect. On what number can I reach you?

I didn’t even have time to update Finn before Davina replied with her number. “I have an interview set up for tomorrow morning,” I said, clapping my hands together.

“Who with?”

I leaned back in my chair and eyed him with feigned suspicion. “Why? You worried it’s an enemy of Andrew Hanes?”

He raised a brow. “Should I be?”

I hope so. I wasn’t quite ready to admit defeat on the Hollows angle. It was entirely possible Davina had strong, negative feelings about the development, but I was relieved the feature wouldn’t rest on it. “A local wedding planner,” I said, ignoring his question.

Finn’s cheeks pinked with amusement. “This keeps getting more and more interesting. Where’s this interview taking place? The B&B for breakfast?”

“She’s currently in Florida, so we’re talking on the phone. Speaking of breakfast, there was no one there this morning.”

“I think we might be the only guests this week.”
