- About the Author
“I’ll come to the city on weekends. We’ll make it work.” He waved his hands around the room. “How are you going to say goodbye to your new friends?”
Even though he was joking, I got a little choked up. It was the end of an adventure. “I can come back here too. I’ll need my fix of Brothers dark. Pleasant Hollow has absolutely ruined me for beer anywhere else. Maybe I’ll even check out that ShortLine frequent-rider pass after all.”
Finn’s eyes sparkled. “We should do a farewell tour. Start with a pre-dinner beer, share a plate of garlic knots at the Oven, have our main course here, followed by ice cream at Lickety Splits, and return to Brothers for the grand finale.”
“Sounds amazing, except the grand finale needs to be in one—or both—of our rooms for fireworks, if you know what I mean.” I waggled my eyebrows.
“If I didn’t adore you, Adina Gellar, I’d say never waggle your eyebrows again.”
“Not sexy, huh?”
“You could probably make picking your nose sexy, but please don’t try.”
“It’s a sacrifice I can live with,” I said, grinning. “Tonight will be fun! Except…” I tapped my fingers to my lips. “What about your dad? The tacos.”
Finn blinked. “I’ll bring them to him tomorrow.”
The momentary delay in his response left me unconvinced. I leaned in. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. It’ll be fine.” He nodded assuredly.
“It’s a date, then?” Excitement fluttered in my belly.
He reached over and rubbed the top of my hand. “It’s a date.”

Later that day, I nursed a pint of Brothers dark while waiting for Finn to join me. The place was empty. It was too bad they hadn’t taken me up on my Oktoberfest idea, because it looked like they needed the business. Unless the cousins figured out a way to have more than one birthday each per year.
Greg approached. “The answer is still no.”
I threw my hands up in the air. “I’ve been here several times since then and haven’t mentioned it. Have I?” Left unspoken was: Your loss.
He smiled. “I suppose not. Where’s your friend? The fancy guy from the city.”
I choked on my beer. I’d never thought of Finn as “fancy.” Fancy Finn. Maybe I’d call him that later…in the heat of the moment. “He’s on his way.”
