When things seem bleak, all you need is love; someone to shine some light through the darkness. Jemma’s love and passion for her family and her home reminded me of how important those things were to me too. Thanks to her, I opened my eyes and started living again and I’m so grateful that I could help her do the same.

Our future together, back home in Whitsborough Bay where we belonged, was now filled with exciting promise. It turned out that lightning really did strike twice.

All You Need Is Love was originally published in spring 2017 under the title Bear With Me. It was my fifth book but my first independent release after my original publisher ceased trading. I was really nervous about it, not only because it was my first indie book but because it was the first book I’d written outside of my ‘Welcome to Whitsborough Bay’ series. The series had been really well received but would my readers enjoy a standalone, albeit set in the same fictional North Yorkshire seaside town?

As a keen arctophile myself (collector/lover of teddy bears), I’d always wanted to write a novel featuring a teddy bear shop, especially as I ran my own bear shop for two years during which time I started writing my debut novel. A bear shop setting gave rise to more nerves because I know that the idea of an adult collecting teddy bears may seem a little strange to some. Thankfully, the reviews I received reassured me that readers fell in love with Jemma’s and Sam’s stories … and perhaps a little bit in love with bears too.

I was delighted that my amazing new publisher, Boldwood Books, wanted to refresh and re-release all of my back catalogue and it’s been a pleasure to revisit this story several years down the line with a fresh pair of eyes and the expert guidance of my brilliant editor, Nia Beynon. Thank you so much, Nia, for all the fabulous advice on where to trim and where to add more colour.

Early on, I knew that I wanted this story to include either an illness or a life-changing condition. After some research, I settled on Parkinson’s, a condition with which my Auntie Jennifer was diagnosed in 2003. When the original version of this book was released, she was seriously ill with dementia too but sadly she passed away in August 2018. My thoughts are with her husband and children from whom a beautiful, vivacious woman was taken far too soon.
