- Meet Melissa
The three couples pushed their way up to the bar. The girls were hanging all over their men, giggling, and kissing them. The tallest of the guys, wearing a black bandanna tied around his dark hair, squeezed between the couple sitting to Tobias’s right and flagged down the female bartender, ordering a round of beers. The couple vacated their stools, and two of the giggling blondes slid onto them.
Tobias wondered if youth and stupidity made them oblivious to everyone around them, or if they were just assholes.
The heaviest guy hiked a thumb over his shoulder, speaking in a thick Southern accent. “I’m gonna hit the head.”
“Me too,” Bandanna said, and leaned in to tongue-fuck the woman on the stool beside Tobias. “Don’t you go anywhere, baby.”
She rolled her eyes, but he’d already walked away.
“Wait up, John. I need to pee, too.” The heavyset guy’s girlfriend hurried after him.
The other couple had their tongues down each other’s throats.
It seemed like all the rowdies were out tonight. Tobias looked up at the television. The blonde leaned closer, pushing her shoulder into his arm. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes.
“’Scuse me. Can you give me that menu?” She pointed to the menu on his other side.
He handed it to her, turning his attention back to the television.
“Have you eaten here?” she asked. “What’s good?”
He didn’t know if she was talking to him or her friend, who was taking a breather from her tongue-fucking.
She bumped his shoulder again. “Hey, handsome. I’m talking to you.”
“Sorry, what?”
She turned on her stool so her knees touched his leg and leaned her elbow on the bar, rested her chin on her palm, fluttering her long fake lashes. “You’re a grumpy one. Is your team losing or something?”
“No.” He looked up at the television, and she tapped his arm.
When he glanced at her, she smiled. “Have you eaten here?”
He nodded.
“What’s yummy?”
“The burger was good.”
She cocked her head. “See? Was that so hard?”
Time for me to go. He put cash on the bar to pay for his bill and pushed to his feet, bumping into Bandanna’s chest. “Sorry, man.”
Bandanna stepped closer, eyes wide and chaotic like he’d done coke in the bathroom. “Were you talking to my girl?”
Come on, dude. Don’t be a dick. “Just answered her questions, man. She’s all yours.”
“No shit she’s all mine.” He bumped his chest into Tobias’s. “What’s wrong—can’t get your own woman?”
Tobias’s hands curled into fists. He had a good four inches on the asshole, but the guy wasn’t worth losing his temper over. “I suggest you back up.”
“Did you hear that?” Bandanna said to his buddies as they moved behind him. “This douchebag thinks I need to back up.”
