- Meet Melissa
He pulled her into his arms, gazing down at her intently. But there was something new in that intensity. A hint of new light peeking in. “I don’t think anything could be awful if I’m with you. You’ve got a great family, and honestly, I’m relieved they know the truth. I hate hiding things from anyone, but especially from you and the people in your life.”
“Thank you. I appreciate that, and I’m sorry about Blaine.”
“Don’t be. He loves you, and it’s going to take time.”
“So…I guess I’ll see you around?” she said awkwardly.
A low chuckle rumbled out. “Where are you heading?”
“Home, I guess.”
“Come with me to see my grandfather.”
“Don’t you want time alone with him?”
“I want time with him, but I’ve been alone long enough. No more hiding, remember? And you should probably make sure there aren’t any conflicts of interest with you doing therapy with a resident when you’re sleeping with his grandson.”
“Chloe’s the director of the facility. I think we can work something out.”
“No shit? She is?”
“Yes, but I’ll be sure to talk with her and Elsa, and assuming Chloe and Elsa are okay with it, if your grandfather has a lucid moment when I’m with him, I’ll speak to him about it, too.”
“Thank you. But what if Chloe feels there is a conflict of interest?”
“Well, then either we stop sleeping together, or I work with him on my own time, not through the facility.”
“I’ll take option number two, please.” He leaned down, kissing her. “After we see my grandfather, do you think you’ll have time to go bed shopping with me?”
She cocked her head. “You’re buying a bed?”
“If I’m sticking around, I’m sure as hell not sleeping on that hard-ass futon. What do you say?”
“Hm…” She tapped her jaw, pretending to mull it over. “Do we get to christen it?”
He brushed his lips over hers, whispering, “Only if you’re a very good girl.”
“How about if I promise to be a very bad girl?”
“Keep talking like that and I might have to take you over my knee.”
Her body ignited. “That’s a shame. I was thinking you’d want me on my knees.”
He tightened his hold on her, and she felt his hard length pressing into her belly. “Get on your Barbie mobile,” he growled. “We’re going to my place first.”
“My place is closer,” she taunted as he strode to his motorcycle.
He straddled his bike, the fire in his eyes blazing a path between them.
She’d never driven home quite so fast.
