They paid her no mind, following her out of the parking lot like the fucking Secret Service guarding the president. Madigan’s voice echoed in his mind. There’s something special about the president’s daughter. When it came to her, it was the fucking truth. He watched her Jeep disappear around the corner, feeling like his heart was being ripped from his chest.

How the hell had that happened so fast?

He turned away, trying to escape the pain, but the jagged edges of it all—being outed, Madigan’s devastation, the hatred from the men she adored—tore at him.

Tank and Maverick stared him down like they wanted to tear his head off.

He closed the distance between them, getting right in their faces. “You think I’m such a piece of shit that I’d ever hurt her? None of you fucking know me. But if you want a piece of me, come and get it.” He banged his fists on his chest, hoping they’d beat him so he could feel something other than the torment ravaging through him. “Go ahead. Give me your best shot. Fucking take it.”

They stared at him, stone-faced.

“Fucking pussies.” He stormed inside to do what he should have done a month ago and furiously packed his shit.

Chapter Nine

MADIGAN STRUGGLED TO see through the blur of tears and fury as she sped down the road, hoping to lose her brothers and cousins. The traffic light up ahead turned yellow. She gripped the steering wheel so hard her knuckles blanched and floored it, flying through the yellow light. Relief flooded her, but her victorious glance in the rearview showed five motorcycles speeding through the intersection. Damn it. They stuck to her like flies on shit, and that’s exactly what she felt like. Shit. Why couldn’t they just let her wallow in her anger and misery alone?

Blaine’s voice slammed into her. Then you know this son of a bitch, Tobias Fucking Riggs, killed a man and just got out of prison three months ago? She’d seen the truth in Tobias’s eyes before he’d even opened his mouth.
