  33. Meet Melissa

Her cheeks burned with the memories as he pushed to his feet, wiping his enormous hands on a rag. You know what they say about men with big hands. Or was it feet? She looked down at his feet. It didn’t matter what the old saying was—he had them both covered.

“You stalkin’ me now?”

“No.” Her gaze snapped up to his, and she tried to ignore the heat blazing from his intense and guarded dark eyes. The same eyes that had promised so many sinful things in her dreams. He was even taller than she remembered, broader, with a chiseled jawline covered in scruff the same warm caramel color as his hair, and lips she wanted to feel against her skin.

“You sure of that?” he asked, pulling her from her lustful stupor. He arched a brow with amusement.

“Do I look like I have to stalk men? I’m not saying I’m a ten, but I’m smart and I’m easy on the eyes. Being a little taller might be nice, but I’m small boned, so it could make me look awkward, like Olive Oyl. My brothers got the height in our family. But I think I’m a solid eight and a half. Not that I’m even looking for a man. Been there done that, and I’m not going there again. I mean, maybe for a little fun, but relationships aren’t on my to-do list.”

He was looking at her with slanted brows, as if she were speaking a foreign language. “Are you always like this?”

“Like what?”

“Never mind.” He scrubbed a hand down his face. “What’re you doing here?”

“My Vespa is sputtering when I give it gas, and I’m afraid it’s going to die. Is there anyone here who can fix it?”

“You mean like a mechanic?” He glanced at the car he’d just rolled out from under, a reluctant smile spreading across his face. It softened his rough edges but did nothing to lessen the intensity of those brooding eyes.

“Yes. Sorry. Can you fix it?”

“There’s not much I can’t fix, but I’m about to clock out for the night, and the other guy is already gone. Can you leave it here and we’ll check it out tomorrow?”

“Sure.”

“Why don’t you pull it into that bay so I can lock it up for the night. Get whatever you need out of the storage compartment.”

“I have everything I need.” She pointed to her backpack. “Will you hold this?”

She handed him her helmet, and his brow wrinkled as he looked it over. “It’s pink.”
