The fear and disbelief in her eyes gutted him. There were a hundred things he wanted to say to plead his case and give Blaine hell for coming after him. But he knew she was better off without him, and if Madigan were his sister, he’d do the same thing, or worse. He forced himself to look into the eyes that had held such immense trust, now shattered beyond recognition, and confirm her worst fears. “Yes.”

The air rushed from her lungs, and she gaped at him, eyes glistening with tears, her devastation nearly taking him to his knees.

“Madigan,” he said gruffly, unable to hold back.

“Don’t,” she seethed, fury hardening her features. “I guess I should have listened when you warned me to stay away from you.”

Tobias ground his back teeth, furious with himself for getting caught up in her and with her fucking brother for acting like he was better than him. But he told himself to let her go as Zander and a rough-looking guy with ice-blue eyes came to her side.

“Leave me alone,” she snarled at them. “I’ve got to get my stuff.”

“I’ll get it,” Tobias bit out.

“You’ve done enough,” she fumed, and stalked past him into the apartment.

Blaine reached for his arm, and Tobias plowed forward, going chest to chest with him, sending him down the steps. “Back the fuck off. You got what you came for.”

The others moved in, but Blaine held up his hand, stopping them.

“You got anything to say for yourself?” Blaine barked.

“Why bother?” Tobias narrowed his eyes. “Sounds like you’ve got me all figured out.”

“Sure as hell do.” Blaine held his gaze. “You go near Madigan or the Salty Hog again, and it’ll be the last time you go anywhere.”

Tobias leaned closer, seething, “You think you know me, but you don’t know shit. Be careful tossing threats like that around.”

“It’s not a threat. It’s a promise.”

“Then that makes you a worse man than me.”

“You can stop your pissing match,” Madigan said as she plowed between them, bag in hand. She turned a scathing look on Tobias. “I’m not stupid enough to go back for more.”

As she stalked toward her Jeep, Blaine pointed to the largest of the other men and the guy with ice-blue eyes who had stepped up with Zander. “Tank, Maverick, you keep eyes on this asshole.” To the others he said, “Let’s go,” and like little soldiers, they headed for their motorcycles.

Madigan shot those men death stares as they mounted their bikes and hollered out her window, “Do not follow me.”
